What is it like to be a Student at OTL?

Students at OTL can expect an extremely high caliber of instruction in a clean and professional environment. Each student’s characteristics are evaluated and carefully matched with a tutor who best suits their needs. Younger students (K-5) usually have homework or test prep materials they bring to the session and/or the tutor prepares lessons prior to the student’s appointment. Students in the higher grade levels (6th-college) focus on understanding the concepts presented in homework, projects and test study materials. Open communication between the student and tutor is crucial for academic success. Any upcoming tests/quizzes, recent grades, and comfort level in the subject that is being tutored is needed and expected.

Why work with On Track Learning?

Students usually want or need a tutor because they need further clarification of concepts that are being taught in their class, in a private one on one session. This individual attention from a tutor allows for the opportunity to specifically address points of confusion and clear up any issues that might have been overlooked in the classroom. This personalized attention ensures that no concept gets “through the cracks” of the student’s academic arsenal. Tutoring also eliminates the frustration felt by a student who has fallen behind or struggles to keep up with the curriculum; which compounds as the material increases in difficulty. A tutor can help identify a problem in its infancy and focus on understanding the concept behind the problem. This support system is the basis of success in private tutoring.

How do I become a student?

Students interested in tutoring may contact owner Dan Harrington directly. An introductory evaluation will be set up to ensure compatibility with both parties. Dan will then match the student’s profile with the tutor that best matches the student’s needs. A regular monthly schedule is then agreed upon between the student and tutor.

Semi – Private Classes

Why choose Semi-Private Classes?

Semi-private tutoring at OTL provides the same high-quality individualized instruction as our private sessions, but now at a more affordable group rate. This is the ideal option for students who are looking to supplement their classroom instruction or maintain their knowledge over breaks from school. We have carefully crafted our curriculum to emphasize personal growth, goal setting, and identifying possible areas of improvement so that students’ needs are met in this group setting.

What can you expect from Semi-Private Classes?

OTL’s semi-private tutoring program provides students with a unique combination of online recourses and a competitive 1:4 student to teacher ratio. The program begins with a placement test that allows each student to be paired with a seasoned tutor. The tutor will then use the results of the placement test to identify and address relevant knowledge gaps through both individualized instruction and Study Island, our online platform. During the hour-long session, each of the four students will work at their own pace on questions which have been hand-selected by the tutor to target areas of improvement. The tutor will also float between the students, providing one-on-one instruction as necessary. Finally, parents will receive an email from the tutor after each session updating them on their students progress to ensure accountability and academic growth.
